CPTED imageIn 2020 Council decided to revise the Downtown Façade and Signage Improvement program with a specific focus on CPTED projects. In partnership with the Downtown Business Improvement Association (BIA) and as part of the City’s ongoing downtown revitalization efforts, the revised program provides grants to business and building owners seeking to create positive public and private interactions in the spaces surrounding their downtown properties. The program will fund projects that follow CPTED principals of safety and security, and also align with Campbell River’s Refresh Downtown principles.

Business owners and property owners located within the Downtown BIA area of Campbell River are eligible for grants that will cover up to 50% of site specific CPTED assessments – to a maximum of $5,000. Additionally grants of up to 50% of eligible CPTED-focused improvement projects are available – up to a $10,000 maximum.

For guidance on the types of projects and interventions that might qualify for the grant, applicants are encouraged to read section 3- “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” starting on page 79 of the BC Housing Design and Construction Standards report.
