UPDATE AND DOGWOOD CORRIDOR STUDY
The City will be updating the Master Transportation Plan in 2022. This document reviews the future transportation needs of the community, alternate transportation choices, and the provision of multi modal transportation opportunities. The Plan will explore walking, cycling, transit and car use in Campbell River, with potential projects over the next 20 years.
The Dogwood Corridor Study will take a close look at Dogwood Street, from the south end (Jubilee Parkway) to the north end (Highway 19A). The Study will review all major intersections and recommend short, medium and long term improvements for both operations and safety.
There will be opportunities for public input for both these plans. Check back here for updates
Overview
The City of Campbell River has retained WATT consulting group to update its Master Transportation Plan and undertake the Dogwood Corridor Study. The City is looking for a new, comprehensive, and visionary transportation plan with sustainability as its main guiding principle. Ultimately, the Master Transportation Plan will provide a visionary framework for transportation in Campbell River over the next 20 years including an implementation strategy with financial costs.
The City’s Sustainable Official Community Plan includes four key themes regarding transportation:
- Campbell River is compact and green. Our City’s transportation system provides safe, direct connections between its liveable and complete neighbourhoods and vibrant downtown through an attractive greenway and multi-modal roadfalway network.
- Campbell River is a healthy community. Our City offers affordable transportation choices for people of all ages and abilities that support physical activity and healthy living, including walking and cycling.
- Campbell River is committed to sustainability. Campbell River’s transportation will enhance the livability and sustainability of our community by providing transportation choices that are economically, socially and environmentally responsible.
- Campbell River Is responsive and inclusive. The City will manage the transportation system in a fiscally responsible manner that promotes the community’s sustainability vision.
The MTP update will further these visions and support walking, cycling and transit use in order to build a community with less pollution, less congestion, healthier individuals, healthier communities, less reliance on fossil fuels and fewer collisions.
The focus of the Dogwood Corridor Study is to complete a technical review of the corridor to identify how it can accommodate active transportation modes while maintaining the mobility of the corridor for vehicle traffic and business access.
