Water Restrictions Public Engagement, Summer 2022

We Want to Hear From You!
This summer, the City of Campbell River is launching a pilot project to try out revised water restriction stages while engaging with the community – both residents of single family homes and relevant lawncare businesses (i.e. lawncare/landscaping) on the effectiveness of the proposed changes. Changes to the restriction phases are being considered in order to offer more flexibility for residents, relevant businesses and City operations, while ensuring that the City can always provide water for critical services such as fire protection. Learn more and have your say here.

During late spring and summer, Campbell River has two distinct periods throughout the day where water demand can surpass the production limit of our water distribution and disinfection facilities.

The watering restrictions will allow for more consistent water usage and decrease probability of surpassing the production limit.

The watering restrictions bylaw is a first step to water conservation. There are many other ways to improve water efficiency outdoors.

Residential Lawn Watering/Irrigation Schedule

Watering Restrictions (during Stage 1)

Residential watering is permitted from 4 to 8 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.

  • Even-numbered address: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday
  • Odd-numbered address:  Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday

Non-residential watering is permitted 1 a.m. to 8 a.m.

  • Even-numbered address: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Odd-numbered address:  Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
Properties are considered non-residential if watering of common areas is controlled by a central system or strata and not the individual units or residents.

Watering gardens, trees, shrubs, and community gardens by hand or with a spring-loaded type nozzle with automatic shut-off connected to hose is allowed at any time during the day in all watering restriction stages.
