Purpose
The Youth Action Committee (YAC) is made up of between 10 to 12 youth in grades 9-12 who are interested in contributing to making Campbell River a youth friendly city. The Youth Action Committee provides youth with an opportunity to share their perspectives and input in City decision making, and to learn about local government. Each year, the Youth Action Committee focuses on a combination of providing feedback on City projects and initiatives, and carrying out a youth-led project, selected and steered by the committee. The Youth Action Committee advises on a range of projects including art, recreation, transportation, environmental initiatives, and other community issues.
Youth Engagement Strategy
The City of Campbell River has a Youth Engagement Strategy that was developed by Campbell River youth and City staff. It provides guidelines for meaningful engagement of youth and requires that City projects and plans seeking public input work toward 10% of public consultation being with youth. Youth Charter
The City of Campbell River, School District 72 and the RCMP signed the Youth Charter in 2012. The Youth Charter is a vision for the future in Campbell River developed by Campbell River youth. To view the Youth Charter click here.
