Extreme weather shelter extended in Campbell River

Continued freezing temperatures over the next few days have prompted the City of Campbell River, Strathcona Regional District (SRD) and Campbell River Coalition to End Homelessness to extend the operations of an Extreme Weather Shelter at the Campbell River Community Centre located at 401 11th Avenue. This shelter will continue to run nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. until Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022.

Funding for operating the Extreme Weather Shelter is made possible through Emergency Management British Columbia and the Strengthening Communities grant through the Union of BC Municipalities. Since this shelter was activated on Dec. 24 we have seen an average of 30 people using this service each night. Warm drinks, washroom facilities, snacks and cots are provided.
