Community Chain returning for second year
Help create connections in our community by contributing to the Community Chain this holiday season.
The project, organized by the City of Campbell River’s Recreation and Culture Department, is returning for a second year.
Last year’s Community Chain was crafted by a small group of Campbell River seniors and people living with disabilities, who each worked on the project from their own location. Each crafter received three links, and was asked to write their answers to three questions on their links. A recreation programmer delivered and collected the links from participating group homes and seniors’ facilities. The completed chain was displayed at the Campbell River Community Centre. The project allowed the group to work together—separately—and remain connected during the pandemic.
This year, the department would like to expand this project throughout Campbell River.
To contribute, write your answers to two questions on the Community Chain links before Friday, Dec. 10.
Links will be available at:
- The Sportsplex
- The Community Centre
The questions are:
- Over the past year, what value or values have you seen demonstrated in the Campbell River community?
- What is your wish for the future?
Answer the first question on a red link, and the second question on a green link.
“The last two years have been challenging for communities, and we need to celebrate ourselves as a community and the ways we came together and supported each other. This project helps reinforce that feeling of togetherness, connection and well-being,” says recreation and culture programmer Deb Simpson. “The Community Chain is simple, but impactful – last year’s small chain got a lot of positive comments, so expanding the project is the next step. I’m really interested to see how the wishes for the future have changed since last year.”
Links will also be available for you to write on at the following locations:
- Toy & Craft Show and Sale at the Sportsplex (Nov. 27 and 28)
- Tidemark Theatre, during voting for the Gingerbread House Competition (Nov. 30 to Dec. 3)
- Campbell River Art Gallery, during the Big Truck Parade (Dec. 3)
Common answers will be shared via a word cloud displayed in the Community Centre in January, and posted to the City’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
