Meet Amanda Raleigh, who focuses on positive action to build community.
As the vice-president of the Campbell River Community Foundation, and of the Young Professionals of Campbell River, Amanda continues a family tradition of community building.
Her grandparents were some of the area’s original pioneers. Her family’s business, Seymour Pacific, with its success on a national level, has maintained its head office in Campbell River and has grown to become the largest private employer in the city.
Amanda focuses her efforts on making Campbell River one of the greatest communities to live in for the benefit future generations of her own family and for the entire community. Her most recent project, the Campbell River Golf and Country Club, reinvests in the community to provide leisure opportunities..
Along with the good fortune of waking up each day to see the ocean, the mountains and the trees, Amanda appreciates all the luxuries of living in a place with a real sense of community, where neighbours help each other, and people recognize that reciprocating back and forth are vital for building strong communities.
“A sense of community makes us feel like we belong, this is what being in a positive community environment means to me, and it is important to positively take part in community decisions,” she says.
Amanda emphasizes that, if you want things to get better, it’s important to be a part of the change and take the steps to make things better.
As a member of the Waterfront Task Force, Amanda expects that the 3.5-acre development will liven up the downtown.
“The new waterfront will give a new feel for our downtown; it will bring more residents, more businesses and more dollars, which will all bring more excitement and more positive growth for our community,” she adds.

Open house event Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Campbell River Community Centre Lounge (401-11th Ave.) will present the Waterfront Task Force’s vision for the 3.5 acre site that has grown through the public consultation process and incorporates the community’s ideas. The long-term planning and development framework for this property will also be shared. There will be an opportunity for public feedback.
