COMMUNITY GARDENS IN CAMPBELL RIVER

Community gardens are often established and run by a community organization on plots of land that have shared gardening space that are leased for a nominal fee to community members looking for a space for the production of food crops and horticultural products.

Community Gardens can include elements of environmental stewardship, social justice, skill development and beautification, and have been identified as initiatives that can help create healthier, sustainable, and more resilient communities. There are currently two community gardens in Campbell River, as well as four gardens at schools throughout the community.

COMMUNITY GARDEN POLICY

In 2013, the City of Campbell River adopted a Community Garden Policy. This policy aims to guide the development of new community gardens in the City. Complementing the policy, the City also has a sample License of Use Agreement and guidelines for partnering with interested organizations. These guidelines were developed in collaboration with Greenways Land Trust, who operates the Laughing Willow Community Garden in Willow Point.
