The primary purpose of a Building Permit is to ensure that all buildings comply with the safety, health, building and zoning requirements of the City of Campbell River and the Province of British Columbia. The City of Campbell River has prepared packages to assist in understanding the City's Building Permit and Inspection Process. The documents are for general guidance and do not replace bylaws or other legal documents.

If you are intending to construct a Residential building please review the following application packages and forms.   

Residential Building Permit Application includes, Single Family Dwellings, Single Family with a suite, Two Family Dwelling, Ancillary Building, Plumbing Renovations, Modular/Mobile Homes and Relocation of a Building.

General guidelines for residential inspections

Two Day Residential Building Permit Application to qualify for the two-day Residential Building Permit the applicant must be a Homeowner Protection Office Licensed Building and the application must be for the following types of permits: single family dwelling, Single Family with a suite, two family dwelling, and ancillary building when application is submitted in conjunction with an application for the principle dwelling.

In addition to the requirements of the regular application, applications for a two day permit require detailed site information, spatial separation calculations, building, and plumbing information. Details are found in the application package and in order to qualify all the information must be provided. Applications with missing or incomplete information will be withdrawn from the two day process.

Please note, due to staff availability, the Two Day permitting process may not be available at all times.

2 Day Residential Building Permit Applications Temporarily on Hold

The City of Campbell River is temporarily putting our 2 Day Residential Building Permit Application process on hold. Due to changes to the BC Building Code requiring additional inspections and plan review and resource shortages in the Building Department, the City will be processing all building permits in the order in which they are received. We hope to return to an expedited Residential Building Permit Application soon. Thank you for your patience.

A Driveway Permit can be applied for at the time of building permit application for a standard application and must be approved before applying for a Two Day Residential Building Permit. The maximum permitted driveway width is 6.0 meters.
